Contributing to the Wiki

How much experience do I need to help with the wiki?

None at all! If you want to just copyedit or add information, visit our Help:Contents page to learn the basics of editing, adding images, and (most importantly) citing sources. If you want to help translate, visit the Translation page for more info on that. For more in depth contributions that require messing around with template creation and coding, the MediaWiki help section has information on almost everything. If you need help with anything the discord is very helpful! There are a bunch of very cool people there.

I have a personal timeline/document/chart/record of something in the QSMP, is that helpful?

Yes! 1000% yes!! If you're willing to share that with us, please either link it to our discord server or send it to us on Tumblr! Don't worry if it's uncited, incomplete, or only focuses on one person. Every little bit helps.

How much detail should I add to my descriptions/summaries?

It depends on where you're putting it. For more information read this section.

Can I use NameMC as a source?

NameMC is a good place to get pictures of the players' skins. However, it does have some limitations. Some players change their skin directly in the server: these will not show up on NameMC. In addition, for citing a line such as "Jaiden changed her skin for Festa Junina", a link to the stream showing her wearing that skin during that event is needed.

Can I use the official QSMP Twitter accounts as sources?

For Twitter-specific things (example: the teaser images and announcements of new members), yes! However, please prioritize citing vods over update tweets. Go here for more on citations.

What tense should I use?

Descriptions of living characters, existing places, existing organizations, and mods still in use should be in present tense. Descriptions of events, deceased characters, places/buildings that do not exist anymore, and mods that have been removed should be in past tense. For example, all of the timeline should be in past tense. It may be easier to think of it like this: is the information currently true? If so, it should be in present tense.

  • Example of present tense: Slimecicle is portrayed as a human with light brown hair.
  • Example of past tense: On the first day, Slimecicle was on the same train as Quackity.

If something about a character has changed, it should be in past tense.

  • Aypierre used to have a creeper face on his shirt (past tense). His shirt now has a picture of Gegg on it. (present tense)

Events are the exception:

Events should always be in past tense, even if it is an ongoing enigma or overarching plotline that hasn't finished yet. We don't want to have to go back and change everything to past tense once the arc has ended.

  • Incorrect example: Forever is lost in the Nether on a quest to find the eggs, and even the Federation doesn't know where he is (present tense). At the time of writing, this is true. However, once this plotline is resolved or progresses further, we would have to return to the page and update the tense.
  • Correct example: On October 16th it was revealed that Forever was lost in the Nether on a quest to find the eggs and even the Federation didn't know where he was (past tense). This sentence will always be true. If the plotline progresses to reveal that Forever wasn't lost, or the Federation finds out where he was, that doesn't change that on October 16th we were given this information.

About the Wiki

Why was this wiki made? Isn't there already one on Fandom Wiki?

While there is a separate QSMP Wiki, this wiki was created due to concerns about the actions of the company hosting it, Fandom.com. This wiki is not affiliated with the QSMP Fandom Wiki or their admin team.

Can I import work from another wiki?

Only import writing you have made. Do not copy content from other wikis. Any users caught intentionally plagiarizing work will be banned.

Who is running this wiki?

This wiki is a collaborative effort! You can see our active users here. Originally, the wiki was started by User:Levlies889. Since then, User:Echotunes and User:MelonPriest have been added as administrators. However, many other users have been instrumental in not only adding information to the wiki but setting it up in the first place by coding templates, creating graphics, helping make decisions about the layout of the wiki, suggesting wiki features, and helping set up and run our social medias.

Miscellaneous

Why are Forever and Wilbur still on the wiki?

Despite any of their actions in the real world, this wiki is designed to document the characters of the QSMP. As such, we cannot take them off of the wiki without losing a lot of information and context in regards to both the main storylines and the stories of the other characters. Rest assured that this is not an endorsement of the content creators behind the characters. We are merely here to document the QSMP as it is: a Minecraft-based roleplay server with unique characters that are separate from the people playing them.

Why do I keep seeing a quote from Slimecicle on other character's pages?

That quote from Slimecicle is an example quote from the original page format every other character page was built off of! Feel free to delete it.

Why do I keep getting errors when adding files or links?

You may be being rate-limited. If you create a user page by clicking your username in the top right and then let one of the admins know, we will add you to the "confirmed users" role which will let you bypass the rate-limits.

I have a concern about a page's content. What should I do?

There are a couple of ways you can approach this.

  • If you are comfortable with editing the wiki, you can add a comment directly on the page using <!-- insert comment here --> this syntax in the source editor. Additionally, you can just insert a comment using the visual editor.
  • You can also join our Discord server. This will probably result in the fastest response time.
  • Our Tumblr ask box is always open for any comments or concerns you might have.

What is the difference between "Other Characters" and "Other Player Characters?

"Other Characters" is our category for characters that don't fall into the other categories we already have. They are not NPCs that are played by the admins, they are not main characters, and they are not eggs. "Other Player Characters" is a subcategory of this. They are characters played by the QSMP content creators but they aren't the main characters. This includes characters such as Abueloier, Creation, and Quacki.

The reason for this distinction is that "Other Characters" also includes characters such as Technoblade or Hank Schrader who are not player characters but don't match any of our other character categories either.
