Philza, also known as Phil, is a British member of the QSMP who was announced on March 18, 2023, and joined for the first time on March 22, 2023. He is portrayed by the streamer of the same name.[4] He is the husband of MissaSinfonia and father of Chayanne and Lullah.

Philza originally comes from a Hardcore Minecraft world. One of the original island residents, he became a parent to Chayanne during Egg Adoption Event. Since then, he has also adopted Wilbur Soot's daughter, Lullah. The three of them (along with the usually absent Missa) lived on top of The Wall. After the eggs' disappearance, Philza spiraled into paranoia, his worries culminating when he became the leader of Team BOLAS?!?! during the Purgatory Event. After reunions with his children and husband, he was one of the residents who participated in the Prison Event and later escaped to QSMP 2024.

Philza, Missa, and their children then lived in Death Family. Philza started getting possessed by Ender King and, after lashing out at Chayanne and Lullah, sent himself into a short exile. There, he was fought by Chayanne for several days, before finally coming back to his senses and returning home. He then spent a lot of time hibernating along with his children before rescuing them from another Federation kidnapping and spending more time with them. Eventually, however, the three of them went on to have a very long sleep in the Rose's Sanctuary.

Physical Description

Phil is a male humanoid crow hybrid[Citation needed] with light skin, blue eyes, blond hair, and a pair of black feathered wings. He has hollow bones.[Citation needed] Up until Purgatory his wings were not seen on his in-game character, as they were clipped when he first arrived and he kept them tucked behind his backpack.[5]

Phil's skin is an edited version of the Bleach character Kisuke Urahara. He wears a black undershirt with a red heart over the chest and a dark green samue with a red belt tied around the waist. Over the samue, he wears a black haori with a white diamond pattern along the bottom hem. He wears wooden sandals and a green and white striped bucket hat. His other accessories are a lavender ribbon as a bracelet around his right wrist, underneath the cuff of his shirt, and an emerald that dangled on a chain from the left side of his hat. He wears a yellow ribbon representing sarcoma awareness on his left lapel. Both lavender and yellow ribons, as well as the emerald, are in honor of his late friend Technoblade.[Citation needed]

Phil often carries a black backpack that displays a skull icon, which represented Missa.[6][7]

According to Maximus, Phil's voice sounds beautiful, "like a mandolin", and Baghera has described it as angelic.[8]

During Festa Junina, Phil wore a straw hat, a green flannel shirt with a yellow ribbon on his left side, ripped jeans with a belt and a red patch, and beige boots. Skin made by @prodotsukare

During the wedding, Philza wore a light green striped bucket hat with a wither rose on his right side. He wore a white dress shirt with rolled sleeves, a black waistcoat, trousers, and a belt with a golden buckle. He had a long black cloak draped over his left shoulder, with couple of golden cloak chains dangling loosely on the front. Skin made by @prodotsukare

The haircut was made by Mike. Mike cut Philza's hat and gave him bald spots on the crown of his head a couple of hair strands on the front of his face that made him look very sad, a long brown mustache with golden bands, and made his hair longer with a golden band at the tips

During Mexican Independence Day, Philza wore a black hat with yellow accents, white shirt, a red bow tie, a black charro suit with golden accents and epaulets, and black boots. Skin made by @weweflippa

During purgatory, Philza's clothes became torn up, and his skin got covered in scars. On his back, he got a tear that showed a scar left by Etoiles. [Citation needed]

Personality

Phil is steadfast, protective, and helpful, but he's not without his chaotic side.[9] He is generally predisposed to making sure that the people that he cares about are safe and well-protected, and is quick to offer spare materials to help others.[10] The survival instincts he carried over from his Hardcore Season 4 world kept him constantly vigilant of his environment, often verging on paranoia when it came to threats that may impact his family.[11] This perceptiveness also allows him to make quick, confident decisions to ensure his own and others' safety; an example of this is Phil's quick thinking during the Election Dinner when he realized his kids were being impersonated.[12] In general, he stays very aware of the technical side of the world, paying a lot of attention to lag and which admins were online at any given point.[Citation needed] He dislikes loud noises and is easily spooked by them.[13][14]

He tends to run off or get distracted easily, especially in bigger group settings, to the point of being infamous for his Irish goodbyes.[15] He likes making fun of other people, often quoting them sarcastically and doing voice impersonations.[16][17][18] His Hardcore background affected his social life as well, making him paranoid and distrustful of others. He has said that he doesn't trust "shit" on the island apart from the eggs and "maybe a couple of people".[19] Despite this, he is respectful of other people's requests and boundaries and reaffirms his own.[20][Citation needed] He doesn't get mad easily, and it takes a lot to truly piss him off. He is somewhat empathetic; he cares about those around him but is emotionally obtuse, often needing specific prompting to realize he had to apply these skills.[21][22] He is quick to laugh at or joke about serious situations, which he had stated to be a coping mechanism. Phil is aware of the leadership position he filled in many of the other islanders' minds, which he disliked but accepted as inevitable.

He seems to underestimate himself quite often, saying that his voice is not up to scratch despite other people complimenting it.[23][8]

When it came to his kids, Phil did his best to balance his protectiveness while still allowing them to pursue their interests in their talents, building projects, and fighting skills. Although he considers dungeons incredibly dangerous places, he still figured out ways to make the situation work if Chayanne had been asking to go fight enemies or if it was part of the quests.[Citation needed] He encouraged Chayanne's interest in cooking, often having him help out with the food related quests, and he cheered Lullah on when she practiced her instruments or performed with RadioEgg.[24][25][Citation needed] He is patient and considerate with Lullah, and made sure to keep an eye on her in case her asthma flared up or in noisy situations where her signs could go unread.[Citation needed] He tried his best not to let them down, sometimes to the point of lying about what he thought.[26][27]

In regards to the other children living on the island, he said that he would fight and die for the eggs.[28]

He is strategic and often planned long-term.[29] He is known to grind for armor for his family, even saving a fully enchanted set for Missa for months in his absence, and his children's bunker included meticulous double layers of reinforced blocks within the wall.[30][31] He didn't like changes.[32]

Phil also has a chaotic streak, as seen in his encouragement of Chayanne's arsonist tendencies.[33] He is a self-described anarchist, and is outspoken in his dislike for the Election and the Debate Nights.[Citation needed][Citation needed]

Phil is easily amused, and one thing that brought him a lot of delight is poking fun at the fourth wall, often in reference to the various QNPC admins and the characters they played—two common examples being NUSSA (NPC01) playing both Chayanne and Cucurucho, and Amapola (QNPC02) having to act as both Lullah and Chayanne (referred to as a "Hannah Montana Moment") when Chayanne wasn't waking up.[34][Citation needed] Phil views the world through a 'glass fourth wall,' which allowed him to be a little more laid-back when it came to certain events on the server.[Citation needed]

His favorite place on Quesadilla Island is on top of The Wall.[35] His favorite foods are steak and pizza, and he thinks that pineapple pizza gets a bad rep.[36] He doesn't like tea and coffee.[37] He likes watching anime and called himself a weeb, albeit not a "high-tier one".[38] He has a habit of improvising songs whenever he listened to music, and he even sung a couple of lullabies like this.[39][40][41] According to him, he, Missa, Chayanne and Lullah shopped at Hot Topic.[42]

History

Backstory

Phil mentioned having trauma due to losing a five-year-old Hardcore world.[43] He had bad experiences with an entity called "The Ender King", and is old friends with "Rose," an entity "not of this world" who has control over nature.

At one point, he and his best friend Technoblade took over Antarctica and founded the Antarctic Empire. (See Related Canons#SMPEarth for more.)

His wings were clipped just before he arrived on Quesadilla Island; he doesn't know who did it, only that it happened while he was on the train. It seems that this event was highly traumatic for him.[44]

Early Days

Philza arrived to the island during Day One on a train. He immediately decided to build his base on top of The Wall. During Egg Adoption Event, he was partnered with MissaSinfonia and was given an egg the two named Chayanne. He often took Chayanne adventuring and encouraged the child's arsonistic tendencies. He then got involved in a conflict with first JuanaFlippa, who shot him, and then—Slimecicle, who took Chayanne's first life by breaking his bed. During the First Egg Kidnapping he saved Leonarda, while Chayanne was saved by FitMC. Phil attended the Trial of JuanaFlippa, but didn't actively involve himself with it, instead taking pictures of the eggs and only going up the stand to present footage of Slimecicle killing Chayanne.

Soon after this, Wilbur Soot, one of Phil's friends, introduced Phil to his newfound daughter Lullah and asked Phil if he could take care of her while he was on tour. Philza happily obliged. The three of them—Philza, Chayanne and Lullah—mostly spent their days together, even experiencing a nightmare together.

New Challenges

After eggs' kidnapping, Brazilian Arrival and intensifying Binary Entity attacks, Philza worked on reinforcing egg defenses by creating a bunker for Chayanne and Lullah and helping with creating the N.I.N.H.O.. He became better friends with newly arrived islanders.

Election

As an anarchist, Philza disapproved of the election, and did not partake in it. He did, however, attend Election Dinner, where he and Etoiles had to fight off a pair of Binary Entities that pretended to be Chayanne and Lullah.

Eggs' Disappearance

The egg's disappeared while Philza was taking a break, leaving him confused and distressed upon seeing their empty beds. He would often spend his nights sleeping next to where he believed his eggs could get a message to him. Immediately following the Mexican Independence Event, Philza was led to a birdhouse seemingly by a note from Lullah, he was then locked inside by Cucurucho. After several days trapped, dreaming of his hardcore world[Citation needed], he woke up back in his basement, the events having seemingly been a dream. After this incident, Philza would occasionally "see things" that would disappear when others came to look. This sparked a sharp increase in his paranoia. He would often check what he'd dubbed "the dream" where the birdhouse had been for any sign of it having been there.

Purgatory

While in Purgatory, Philza was the leader of Team BOLAS?!?!. The team quickly snapped under the pressure of the environment, but through teamwork and hard work managed to win the entire event after two long weeks. As leader Philza always insisted that his team fight with honor.

Prison & QSMP 2024

Philza reunited with Missa once again during the Prison Event, during which the two, along with their children, were able to spend some time together.

After arriving at the new server, he founded Death Family.

Ender King

Philza started getting possessed by Ender King and, after lashing out at Chayanne and Lullah, sent himself into a short exile. There, he was fought by Chayanne for several days, before finally coming back to his senses and returning home.

Finale

Backpack - Phil's backpack functioned as intended, and up until Purgatory, it also served as a way to maintain his center of balance after his wings were clipped.[Citation needed][45] It's displayed as a skull mask, served as a nod to his egg-partner Missa.[Citation needed][6]

Philza is incredibly attached to Chayanne.[46] Philza was always teaching his son various things, starting from general world knowledge and ending with fighting skills.[47] The two of them bounce off each other amazingly, and they love to fool around and encouraged each other's chaotic sides.[48] In Philza's case, though, he might was occasionally encouraging Chayanne too much, as the boy sometimes had trouble containing his desire for violence.[49]
MissaSinfonia icon MissaSinfonia ☆ Very Positive Husbands. Phil and Missa were assigned as co-parents of Chayanne at the start of the Egg Adoption Event. They quickly became accustomed to each other as parents and partners, affirming that they were happy with each other when Slimecicle tried to swap partners.[Citation needed] Phil included Missa in the whitelist for the doors and in his preparation of armor even when Missa wasn't around to receive them.[Citation needed] Phil continues to be faithful to his partner when he isn't there, using his marriage status to turn down Forever.[Citation needed] Phil rarely showed resentment toward Missa for his lack of presence, and would occasionally lament about missing Missa when he's reminded of him through skulls or art in the museum.[Citation needed] When Missa did return, both during the Prison Escape event and the Mexican Independence Day Event, Phil reunited with him joyfully and stayed close to his side as much as he could.[Citation needed]

Niki is a very dear friend of Philza and considered a part of his family.[50] They've gone on adventures together, with him teaching her how the server works and helping her survive.[51][52] They had a lot in common, and she prefered to stick by him whenever she can.[13][53]
Lullah icon Lullah ☆ Very Positive Adoptive Daughter. Originally his granddaughter via Wilbur, Phil knew he would be protecting her long term from the day he met Lullah. He is always extremely conscious of her ‘asthma’ and made sure to give her the attention she needed. He viewed her as a daughter long before the day she was adopted by him and never hesitated to treat her as one of his own. He was always respectful of her relationship with Wilbur and told her stories and news about him to try and help her wait. They would often build together and knew each other extremely well. He liked to tease her and she often was more dramatic in his presence than around others.

Upon meeting each other on the train, Phil viewed Wilbur as "son-shaped", though they do not have a biological relation.[Citation needed] Phil was always willing to help Wilbur out with what he needs due to his busy schedule, and the two had an established rapport that allows for easy bantering and jokes. Wilbur often came to Phil first if he needed something, though also complained that Phil helped him so much that he would never learn to do anything on his own. When it came to finding someone to take care of his daughter, Lullah, Phil was the first pick.[Citation needed]

Additionally, as two of the head members of the Order, Phil trusted Bad to be committed to solving the disappearance of their children, and Bad trusted Phil enough to show him the inventory scanner they used to trap Forever, which Bad has said is a great weakness of his.[Citation needed] While Phil may have disliked some of Bad's plans, such as his kidnapping of the Federation worker, it ultimately had not impacted his overall trust in Bad.[Citation needed]

Baghera Jones icon Baghera Jones Positive From her first day on the server Phil was watching out for and helping Baghera, providing her with resources and tips on egg care. This relationship grew as their eggs became friends. While not particularly close they were always happy to see each other and hang out.

During Purgatory Baghera was sorted onto Team Bolas under Phil's leadership. He took on a guiding role for all of the members, and earned their devotion. After she was rescued Baghera stayed around him, [LIVED IN HIS BASEMENT WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE]

Their relationship started out on rocky terms, as Forever's infatuation with Phil threatened to turn toward something dangerous where he would force Phil to love him.[Citation needed] Despite this, Phil seemed to have a high opinion of him, calling him professional and "one of the most prepared people on [the] server apart from Bad".[55][56] He respected Forever's dedication to protecting the eggs, pointing out how he and Bad practically carried eggs on their backs.[54] Despite all of Forever's extravagances and his silly behavior, Phil remained his friend, saying (in reference to a music video Forever made when he was younger) that "everyone's got a cringy past".[57]

As time progressed, Phil continued to be friendly toward Forever but shut down a majority of his romantic pursuits, culminating in Forever proposing to Phil at the Cellbit-Roier Wedding and being firmly rejected.[Citation needed] Once Forever got over his crush on Philza, the two were able to become closer friends and bond over their mutual care for the eggs, particularly Lullah.[Citation needed] When Forever was under the influence of the Risus Medicine, Phil was very worried for Forever and worked intently to find a way to help him. Additionally, when Forever was in the coma, he planned to visit him every day until he woke up.[Citation needed] He trusted Forever implicitly and believed he had the best interests of the egg and the islanders at heart.
